Get involved

Like all charities, fundraising is essential for the funding of The Bumba Foundation projects. We would like to thank those who have already helped and continue to help us raise funds for our projects. Here are some of the recent fundraising events that our fundraiser have taken part in:

  • Bumba Foundation Charity Dinner 2017

    We are currently planning the 2017 summer charity dinner and provisionally agreed the date of Saturday the 1st July at the Marriott Victoria and Albert Hotel in Manchester. The evening will include a 3 course dinner with coffee and wine, music and dancing, an auction, raffle and also the chance to hear about the work of the Bumba Foundation over the last year (including a few special guests). Tickets cost £55 and can be purchased individually or as a table for 8-12 people. For tickets or to donate a raffle or auction item, please email Martin at bumbafoundation@yahoo.co.uk.


    Community development project – Refurbishment of Mugiti Classrooms

    In 2016 a small group of supporters, “Maddie, Will and David”, discussed visiting our community schools in Uganda. During the planning they expressed their desire to support a community based project by fundraising and taking part in it whilst visiting Uganda. It was agreed that the community based project would involve the refurbishment and repainting of the classrooms in Mugiti and also the installation of solar power for the accommodation building.

    Whilst in the UK, Maddie and Will ran fundraising events at their school and through David’s business contacts; they raised more than £2400, which allowed us to complete the community project. During the visit the team supported the painting of the classrooms and saw the impact their fundraising was able to achieve.


    Bumba Foundation Charity Dinner 2016

    On Saturday 9th July we ran the annual Bumba Foundation dinner, which attracted an enthusiastic group of friends and supporters. During the evening we ran the usual fun auction, which created bidding wars on the famous Nile Special Beer and a hand knitted Gorilla. We were joined by Jordan Drinkwater a local solo artist who played the early evening set and then the famous Rhythm Jets provided the music for the late night dancing. The evening raised over £6,000 and supported us to complete our accommodation building in Mugiti


    Bumba Foundation Charity Dinner 11th July 2015

    On Saturday the 11th July a 100 Bumba Foundation supporters met together at the Marriott Victoria and Albert Hotel in Manchester for the 2015 Charity Dinner. The evening allowed the supporters to see what the Bumba Foundation had achieved over the past year, hear from the team in Uganda and understand more about the foundation. During the evening, the auction was great fun with a bidding war on the handmade straw giraffe and its baby, Our resident singer song writer “Phil”, learnt a new version of Mandy!!!! And Martin finally lost his voice… At the end of the evening we raisied over £4500, which supported the completion and furnishing of the new nursery building at our community school in Iki Iki.


    Bumba Foundation Charity Dinner 26th July 2014

    On Saturday 26th July 100 friends came together at the Marriott Victoria and Albert Hotel in Manchester for the Bumba Foundation annual dinner. During the event the guests were given an update on the current projects with videos from Uganda and enjoy a live performance from singer songwriter Phil Milnes. Through the meal, raffle, auction and fundraising activities, we raise over £6000, which allowed us to buy the furniture and equipment for the new Andrew Mitchell House (2014) classrooms in Iki Iki and Mugiti.

    Bumba Foundation Gala Dinner 21st November 2013

    On the 21st November we held our first Bumba Foundation Gala dinner at the Place Hotel in Manchester, organised by Jane, Lynne and Martin. The evening was a great success and was attended by over 140 friends / supporters, who enjoyed a 3 course dinner, music, raffle, auction and learnt more about the work of the Bumba Foundation. At the end of the evening we raised over £6000, which supported us to buy the furniture, build the kitchen and toilets for the new Bumba Foundation Academy in Iki Iki.

    Nottingham Half Marathon 2013 - 29th September

    On the 29th September a small team of runners took part in the Nottingham half marathon and fun run to raise funds for the Bumba Foundation. On the day the weather was very warm which made the run through the streets and parks of Nottingham feel longer than the 21km, however the support from the crowds along the final 2km along the River Trent kept everyones spirits up. It was the first ever half marathon for Rosh, who achieved an amazing time of under 2 hours and could even walk the next day!!!

    Wine tasting - 17th August

    On the 17th August a group of friends with a love of wine came together to raise funds for the Bumba Foundation and enjoy the odd glass of wine. The evening involved the blind tasting of 11 wines and a competition to guess the cost and the description of the wine, with the winner receiving another bottle of wine!!! The evening was great fun and with the support of a raffle raised over £200 for the Bumba Foundation.

    Sale Beer festival game - 18th May

    The "Fancy A Beer Mate" team invited us to attend their beer festival on the 18th May and run their barrel game with all the proceeds going to the foundation. The festival was a great success with the drinkers challenging themselves to get better at the game as the beers flowed. In the end we had to taste some of the beers to understand what the customers were talking about and we did raise over £100.

    Spire Charity Meal - 23rd April

    The annual charity meal at the award winning Spire restaurant in Liverpool took place on the 23rd April. The quality of the food and the Bumba Foundation attracted 28 diners from the north west. Even though other people were unable to attend they made donations, bought raffle tickets or bid on the silent auction items. On the night the meal raised over £700 with more money pledged for the silent auction.

    Liverpool Half Marathon - 16th March

    On the 16th March at 8.30am, Amber, Gary, Deb and Martin stood in excitement at the Pier Head in Liverpool ready to run the Liverpool half marathon. It was a cold and windy day which supported the runners through the streets, riverside paths, parks and over the few inclines!!! Even though the training and run had be a challenge for most of us, knowing where the funds were going helped us get sponsorship It was Amber's first half marathon and after the compulsory full breakfast after the race, she highlighted when is the next one I think I have the running bug.

    African Kitchen Gallery Lunch 2012

    On the 8th December we held a charity lunch at the African Kitchen Gallery in Euston, London. We were joined by friends and family to enjoy a taste of Africa prepared by Antonio and the African Kitchen Gallery team. Everyone heard about the current activities of the Bumba Foundation and enjoy a discussion about the development of the new school.

  • Spire Charity Meal 2012

    On the 21st November we ran our annual charity meal at Spire restaurant in Liverpool. Spire won the Good Food Guide Restaurant of the year Award for 2011 and always provides the Bumba Foundation with great support. The evening was great fun and included a Ugandan craft shop, auction and raffle. Martin presented an update on the work of the Bumba Foundation over the last 12 months and there was a display about the community school construction. At the end of the evening we had raised £394 and everyone had full stomachs.

  • Nottingham Half Marathon 2012

    On the 30th September, a small team of merry men and women came together to run the Robin Hood Nottingham half marathon and fun run for the Bumba Foundation. We may not have been the sheriff of Nottingham or friar tuck running but we did have Nancy, Jane, Rachel, Max, Kevin, Steve, Gary and Martin. The team took on the cold and wet running routes through Nottingham, which ended with a warm cup of tea… Nothing beats a cup of tea after a run!!

    • Manchester to Liverpool Cycle Ride 2012

      On the 15th September, a team of energetic but not experienced cyclists cycled from Manchester to Liverpool, around 55km but more like 65km after the detour. Anthony led the team on his chopper bike which hadn't been used since school with Martin Tilbury and a team of 12 friends. Everyone enjoyed the cycle on a warm day… and we even had a cup of Uganda coffee with a flapjack at the half way point. The event was a great success and raised over £1000.

    • Great Manchester Run 2012

      On Sunday 20th May, Justin and Kate (friends of the foundation), took part in the Great Manchester. The Great Manchester run, involved a 10km run around the streets of Manchester with another 40,000 runners!! Even though it was a warm day, both Kate and Justin completed it and raised funds for the foundation.

    • London Marathon 2012

      In October 2011 following a visit to Uganda and meeting the children we are constructing a school for, Martin began to wonder how he could help to raise funds. After gaining a ballot place for the London Marathon he felt he had no choice but to come out of his marathon retirement to run his second and last marathon!!! Running a marathon isn’t just the effort on the day, its 5 months of hard training in all weathers and dedication to build up to 4-5hrs of running. On a warm sunny Sunday morning on the 22nd April, Martin completed the 26.2 miles (42km) of the London Marathon. Standing on the finishing line after running for 4.32hrs the legs were in pain but great pride in realising the hard work had raised funds to continue the school construction.

    • Liverpool Half Marathon 2012

      After looking for some volunteers to come for a “run in the park” and raise a little money to support the Bumba Foundation to build a community school in Uganda,Deb Bacon, Aidan Dawson, Gary Mountain, Peter Kirby joined Martin in Liverpool on the 18th March.

      "Ok the run in the park part was true but we may have forgotten to mention its 13.1 miles (21km) and the Liverpool half marathon!!! The whole team completed the run and were rewarded with Sunday Brunch in the Tavern to recover."

    • Spire Charity Meal 2012

      On the 28th March we ran another charity meal at the award winning Spire Restaurant in Liverpool. The event attracted 30 friends who almost forgot that it was a fundraiser as they enjoyed amazing food until the elite raffle sellers helped them exchange tickets for cash. With the support of a silent auction the evening raised over £700.
